In brief

High-performance installation treats the window and wall junction as one assembly. It needs correct support and fixing, a protected insulating layer, interior air and vapour control and exterior weather protection—all adapted to the actual wall.

Key decisions
  • Coordinate window position with façade insulation.
  • Protect foam and complete it with compatible functional layers.
  • Sliders and doors need continuous support and a dedicated threshold detail.
  • Clarify responsibility for sills, plaster, waterproofing and insulation before installation.

Position changes the thermal bridge

Frame position through the wall changes heat flow and how façade insulation can overlap the profile. Masonry, insulation thickness, element weight and available fixing systems shape the solution.

Moving a window outwards is not automatically correct. Brackets, support accuracy, loads and manufacturer details must be checked.

  • Wall type and thickness
  • Future façade insulation position
  • Joinery size and weight
  • Sills, shutters and integrated screens

Three functions, not one universal tape

The installation joint should limit indoor air leakage, keep the insulating layer dry and functional and resist external rain and wind. Tapes, membranes, profiles or multifunction materials follow the substrate and geometry.

Continuity matters at corners, joints and beneath the sill. A premium material used in fragments does not repair an interrupted detail.

  • Inside: air and vapour control
  • Middle: thermal and acoustic insulation
  • Outside: water and weather protection
  • Compatibility with substrate and finishes

Fixings and support carry loads

Foam is not a structural fixing. Weight, sash operation, wind and use transfer through packers, support and correctly selected anchors. Doors and sliders need stable support along the relevant threshold length.

Adjustment should not compensate for unstable support or an opening outside agreed tolerances.

  • Pack at correct load points
  • Match fixings to the substrate
  • Continuous support for heavy units
  • Check geometry before sealing

What to settle before the team arrives

The installation plan should cover datums, access, floor protection, removal, wet trades and sequencing with façade insulation. On nZEB projects, cooperation with the designer and envelope trades reduces improvisation.

The project solution and building compliance are validated case by case rather than by a general label.

FAQ

Questions that come up before quotation

Do tapes automatically make an nZEB installation?+

No. Tapes are components. Position, fixing, support, sealing continuity and envelope integration determine the outcome.

Can high-performance installation be used in renovation?+

Often yes, but it must be adapted to the existing opening and accepted repair scope.

Who completes sills and repairs?+

Responsibilities must be written in the quotation and may vary with the project stage and contracted package.
