In brief

The cost depends on the specification and the work included. See what a quotation should contain so you can compare options for the same project. If information is missing, ask for clarification before comparing totals.

Key decisions
  • Compare quotations with equivalent specifications and installation scope.
  • Small units with many opening functions may cost more per square metre.
  • Colour, specialist glass and accessories affect lead time as well as price.
  • Keep a contingency for concealed renovation repairs.

What to compare in a quotation

What to compareWhat to find in the quotation
Dimensions and opening typesThe same units, divisions and opening directions
SystemExact name, variant and finish
GlazingBuild-up and declared values for the quoted configuration
HardwareIncluded functions and fittings, without assuming extras
InstallationWork scope and the included materials or stages
Related servicesTransport, handling, removal, disposal and repairs
TermsVAT, quotation validity, lead time, payment and applicable warranties

Geometry and function

A fixed light has fewer components than a tilt-and-turn sash. Mullions, sashes, hardware and fabrication operations grow with complexity, so façade division may influence price more than a small size change.

On sliders, weight and mechanism change the product category. Smart Slide and HST should not be estimated as minor variants of one window.

  • Number of sashes and opening functions
  • Fixed, casement, tilt-and-turn or sliding
  • Special shapes and divisions
  • Sizes outside normal ranges

Material, finish and glazing

PVC and aluminium have different cost structures. Coloured, dual-colour, textured or specialist finishes add process and lead time. Acoustic, solar, laminated or toughened glazing changes price and weight.

Do not remove important components simply to reduce total cost without checking the consequence for comfort and use.

  • System and frame construction
  • Colour on one or both faces
  • Exact glass build-up
  • Hardware, handles and security level

Installation and logistics

Difficult access, upper floors, lifting, large-glass handling, removal and repairs can be significant. Functional sealing uses additional materials and requires prepared substrates.

The quotation should state transport, handling, removal, disposal, sills, junction profiles and repairs.

  • Distance and site access
  • Weight and lifting requirement
  • Opening condition and preparation
  • Sealing and finish scope

How to compare quotations

Build a table for system, glazing, hardware, colour, accessories, installation and warranty. Ask when a line is not explicit. The lowest total is not comparable when services will be charged separately.

For an initial estimate, send approximate dimensions, opening types and the project location. We explain the assumptions behind the quote and what needs checking before you order.

FAQ

Questions that come up before quotation

Why not publish a price per square metre?+

It would create false precision. Geometry, openings, glass and installation can strongly change cost at the same area.

Can I get a range before measurement?+

Yes, with indicative dimensions, a proposed configuration and photographs. The range remains subject to technical verification.

Which costs are often forgotten?+

Special transport, removal, disposal, sills, shutter power and finish repairs.
